A few words on Serifos

The capital of Serifos is Hora. It is considered to be a model of a medieval castled village and it is built amphitheatrically on the rocky hill of the bay of Livadi.

Hora is a magic place. Whether you see it from the boat when you approach the port, or from Livadi, the view of the white houses that are integrated into the wild natural environment looks like a painting. It is worth taking a walk following the stairs from Livadi to the top of the hill, to the castle, where from the view is amazing!

Livadi, Livadakia, Psili Ammos, Ai Giannis, Ai Sostis, Ganema, Koutalas, Mega Livadi, Platis Gialos, Vagia and Sikamia are some of the beaches where you can swim and relax.

Some of the most famous sights of Serifos that are worth visiting are: the Venetian Castle on top of Hora's hill, the Town Hall, the Archaeological Museum in Hora, the Folklore Museum in Kato Hora, the Mining Museum in Mega Livadi, the White Tower etc.

Serifos' mines are an integral part of the island's history. During their operation, they were a source of wealth for Serifos. In August 1916, the miners went on strike, asking for better working conditions and wages. It was the first bloody strike that took place in Greece with important results, since workers achieved the historic victory of an eight-hour day. The mines closed down in the summer of 1963, affecting deeply and indelibly the socio-economic structure of Serifos. It is worth visiting them.
